Pizzeria Defina, Toronto
Pizzaria Defina is located in Toronto’s Roncesvalles Village neighborhood. Since its opening, it has become a destination spot for both locals and visitors to the area for its unique wood fired oven pizza.
Pizzas are available in either the traditional Neapolitan style or in the thinner Roma version and use local and organic ingredients. The restaurant is known for some unique non traditional pizza recipes like the “Roncy Pizza” which plays up the area’s Polish population, with potatoes, pancetta and asiago, and plans for a California-style breakfast pie are in the works.
Owner Roksolana Curkowskyj, a graduate of Ryerson’s fashion design program, has used her design philosophy to craft her pizzas and her decor. Exposed brick walls and wide-planed wooden floors give the restaurant a very homey feel. Much of the woodwork was done by Curkowskyj’s sons, who used hemlock reclaimed from the building to make the bar and wine rack, as well as many of the tables. Local artist Christian Aldo created two murals, one behind the bar and the other next to the wood fire oven.
We supplied the restaurant with an array of custom lighting including three of our custom industrial pendants (item 7001) that hang in their front window. Over the pizza bar we re-purposed three commercial mixer whisks into light fixtures and over the main bar we converted some reclaimed hand blown over sized glass jars that Roksolana acquired into three other pendant lights. We also provided some other accent lighting here and there throughout the restaurant. If you’re looking for a nice dining experience in a warm yet contemporary atmosphere Defina is a great choice. http://pizzeriadefina.com/
